Baby Safety Rails
Is your toddler apprehensive about moving from the crib to a bed? Are you somewhat apprehensive about it yourself? It's understandable, considering the rails will no longer be there to keep your child from rolling to the floor. But now there arebaby safety devices designed just to make that transition easier for both of you.
Baby Safety Rails Make the Transition Smoother
Most baby safety rails are mesh fabric on a metal or plastic frame that are placed on either side of your toddler's bed to keep him or her from rolling out while sleeping. Most of them are easily removed by an adult for easier bed making and for saying goodnight. Some are even portable so you can take them with you to a grandparent's house or a babysitter's house.
An important thing to consider when buying baby safety rails is to stick to the recommended age and weight ranges. Otherwise they may not be effective at protecting your toddler. Most of these are not recommended for small babies. In fact, most of them are recommended for children between the ages of two and five. A good rule of thumb: If a child can get in and out of bed without assistance, he or she is ready for a bed.
Here are some important safety checks to keep in mind when using a baby safety rail:
- To ensure proper installation, always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Don't use a bed rail in place of a crib.
- Make sure you use the rails with a standard mattress and box spring.
- Keep the bed rail firmly against the mattress when in use.
Follow these guidelines and you will make the transition from crib to bed much easier.
